Shrinking Season 3 is shaping up to potentially be the best season yet for the hit Apple TV+ series. Bill Lawrence, who co-created Shrinking with Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, recently shared new details about the upcoming third season.
Speaking with TVLine, Lawrence confirmed that Goldstein and Cobie Smulders would be returning for "multiple episodes" in Season 3 after being introduced in the previous season as Louis, the drunk driver responsible for the death of Jimmy’s wife, and Sofi, a potential love interest for Jimmy, respectively. The co-creator shared that the new season will show how Louis is moving forward in his own life following his confrontation with Jimmy in the Season 2 finale. "Forgiveness wasn’t just Jimmy’s story. It was Alice’s story, and Derek and Liz’s story, and Sean with his dad, and Gabby and her mom and sister, so this sense of moving forward exists for everybody, and we consider Brett’s character to be a major one after the second year," Lawrence teased.

A five-time Emmy-winning actress joins Jason Segel and Harrison Ford in Shrinking.
As for Smulders, How I Met Your Mother fans can look forward to Segel and Smulders sharing the screen a lot more next season. "The cool thing about the show — and we even told all the actors and actresses this when we started — is that this is a show about a tiny found family that built a nuclear safety bubble around themselves to get through s—t, and then people forgive and open up these doors," explained Lawrence. "That’s why you see [...] Cobie Smulders come in for Jason as a guy that — you know, you talk about moving forward, and whether or not [Jimmy] can find a way to even imagine himself being happy again."
New Details About Michael J. Fox's Role Revealed
Perhaps the most exciting news to come out of Shrinking Season 3 was the announcement that Michael J. Fox would be coming out of retirement to appear on the show. While details regarding who he is playing remain under wraps, Lawrence shared that Fox's part is crucial to the upcoming season. "It’s not just a walk-by. He ended up being in two or three [episodes], and it’s significant," Lawrence teased. "He has a real character, a real role in Harrison Ford’s character’s life, and it was really fun to do."

Jeff Daniels Joins the Cast of 1 of Apple TV+'s Most Popular Shows
Jeff Daniels' next big TV role has been revealed.
Fox is expected to share most of his scenes with Ford's character, Dr. Paul Rhoades, who has Parkinson's disease, the same neurodegenerative condition that Fox has in real life. "On a show that deals with Parkinson’s, and has a character that regularly sees a neurologist for treatment of his Parkinson’s, it was easy to have Mike play an actual character with the condition," Lawrence added. "He is playing someone who is 100% not him — both in how he reacts to it, and how he deals with it — but he can still play his character’s truth better than anyone else could."
The first two seasons of Shrinking are available to stream on Apple TV+, while a release window for Season 3 has not yet been shared.
